SUBJECT: APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF CHANGE ORDER N0. 27 TO
CONTRACT FOR BID PACKAGE NO. 2 - SITE PREPARATION AT MERRITHEW
MEMORIAL HOSPITAL REPLACEMENT, 2500 ALHAMBRA AVENUE, MARTINEZ
SPECIFIC REQUEST( )OR RECO MENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDATION
A. APPROVE Change Order No. 27 to the Contract dated October 5,
1993, for Site Preparation - Demolition, Relocation and
Modifications of Existing Structures and Features, and the
Widening of Street No . 4 at Merrithew Memorial Hospital, 2500
Alhambra Avenue, Martinez, and AUTHORIZE the County
Administrator or his designee to execute the Change Order,
which provides for revisions as a result of design changes in
the sanitary sewer system which were caused by hidden
conditions and site conflicts .
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds in the capital account established for the project are
sufficient to cover the amount encumbered by this contract, from
bond proceeds specified to the project . Bond financing for the
total project cost was secured in May, 1992 in accordance with the
Board of Supervisors direction.

III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
On October 5, 1993, the County awarded the contract to the lowest
responsive and responsible bidder, Joe Carone, Inc. The new
guaranteed maximum cost will exceed the total estimated cost
stated in the construction contract agreement approved by the
Board on October 5, 1993 . The new guaranteed maximum cost will be
$1, 923, 626 . 94, an increase of $30, 601 . 00 .
