MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: June 20, 1995 SUBJECT: Approve Plans and Specifications and Advertise for bids for the Byron Highway Bridge Rehabilitation and Seismic Retrofit Project. Project No. 0662-6R4239-94 and 0662-6R4242-94, CDD-CP # 94 - 58. Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: APPROVE the Plans and Specifications for the Project, and ADVERTISE for bids to be received on Thursday, July 20, at 2:00 p.m. DIRECT the Clerk of the Board to publish the Notice to Contractors in accordance with Section 20392 of the Public Contract Code at least 21 days prior to bid opening. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The estimated contract cost of the project is $447,000, funded by HBRR (60%), Department of Water Resources (32%) and road funds (8%). III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: The project is needed to upgrade the bridge to extend the useful life of the existing structure and improve the performance of the structure in a seismic.event. Auditor-Controller PW Accounting ATTESTED: Construction PHIL CHELOR,Clerk Community Development Of$ttperVlSOrB 8f� •ow* ' Approve Plans and Specifications and Advertise for bids for the Byron Highway Bridge Rehabilitation and Seismic Retrofit Project / June 20, 1995 Page 2 The project includes the rehabilitation of the Byron Highway Bridge across the California Aqueduct including the repair of the bridge decking, replacement of bridge railings, approach guard railings and seismic retrofit. The Public Works Director has filed with the Board of Supervisors the Plans and Specifications for the project. The general prevailing rates of wages, which shall be the minimum rates paid on this project, have been filed with the Clerk of the Board and copies will be made available to any interested party upon request. The Board reviewed and approved the project on November 8, 1994 and determined the project to be exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act as a Class 1 c Categorical Exemption. A Notice of Exemption was filed with the County Clerk on November 10, 1994. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If the project is not approved for advertising, it will not be constructed.
