Bragdon, Dire SUBJECT: Board of Supervisors A oin nt to Airport Land Use Commission The Airport Land Use Commission is a seven-member body with appointees from the Mayors' Conference, the Manager of Airports, the Board of Supervisors, and an At-Large position. The Board has two appointees on the Commission. Attached is a Commission membership roster. The term of one of seats appointed by the Board will expire on May 1, 1995 . That seat is presently held by Katherine Leighton. She has indicated to staff that she is interested in serving another term on the Commission. The new term which is specified by State law is for four years . Ms . Leighton is native and a life-long resident to the Byron area. She was originally appointed by the Board in 1991 in part to provide representation on the Commission from the East County area. She has actively participated in Commission matters during this period of time . Please schedule the Commission appointment before the Internal Operations Committee for recommendation to the Board of Supervisors . Implemented by Board Resolution 70/798 on November 24,. 1970. Became operational in March 1971. APPOINTED BY: Two by the Board of Supervisors, two by the Mayors' Conference (at least one must be from a city contiguous or adjacent to the airport) , two by the airport managers, and one at-large member representing the public and appointed by the other commissioners. TERM: Four years, expiring the first Monday in May. Vacancies are filled by the body which originally appointed the member for the member's unexpired term. (Public Utilities Code, Section 21671.5) . FUNCTIONS: To promote the orderly development of compatible land uses around each public airport in the County, in order to safeguard both the interests of the general public and the welfare of inhabitants in the area of the airport.
