DEMETRIOS ) GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH as a Structure ) RESOLUTION NO. 951190 of Enduring Architectural Significance ) WHEREAS, the Parish of St. Demetrios, under the leadership-of its Pastor, Reverend Father Nickolas George Milatos, has been an emblem of community and family values; and WHEREAS, the results of their labor of faith and love have created an edifice in the Byzantine- dome architectural style; and WHEREAS, the Mediterranean architecture is historically suited to its setting of dry, rolling hills overlooking a city; and WHEREAS, the Church stands as a focal point for activities that will fulfill sacred needs, fellowship needs, inspirational needs, and community-cohesion needs; and WHEREAS, the edifice connects 1500 years of architectural tradition with the emerging population of Contra Costa County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares ST. DEMETRIOS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH as a structure of enduring architectural significance and congratulates the parish members and Father Nickolas Milatos on their contribution to the spiritual and secular needs of the community. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON May 9, 1995, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
