TODDLER IMMUNIZATION MONTH
SUBJECT:
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the attached resolution declaring the month of May
as "Toddler Immunization Month"
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None
III. REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION:
The purpose of Toddler Immunization month is to raise public
awareness of the need to fully immunize every child by age
two.
California surveys indicate that 50% of children two years of
. age and younger are under immunized, and at unnecessary risk
of contacting numerous potentially life threatening childhood
diseases.
The basic series of immunizations against childhood diseases
should be completed before a child's second birthday.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
IN THE 1NG4TIER OF PROMOTING RESOLUTION NO. 951193
The Month of May as:
"Toddler Immunization Month"
WHEREAS recent California surveys indicate 50% of California children are not
up-to-date with their immunizations by two years of age; and
WHEREAS the childhood diseases of polio, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis,
mumps, rubella and Hib meningitis still pose a threat to unimmunized children, and complications
of these diseases are often devastating to both patients and their families; and
WHEREAS virtually all children attending schools and licensed day care centers in
Contra Costa County are protected by these immunizations because schools and centers enforce
the California School Immunization Law; and
WHEREAS the basic series of immunizations against childhood diseases should be
completed before a child's second birthday; and
WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Health Services Department, Public Health will hold
daily immunization clinics where toddlers can be immunized during May; and
WHEREAS private physicians throughout the county also will be making special efforts
to encourage parents to bring their young children in for needed immunizations during May;
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, That the Members proclaim the month of May of each year
"Toddler Immunization Month" and request the support of Contra Costa County residents and
organizations in this effort to protect our children between age one and two years from dangerous
diseases.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 9th day of
May, 1995.
I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of
said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
Witness my hand and the Seal of the
