RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the attached resolution declaring the month of May as "Toddler Immunization Month" II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None III. REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION: The purpose of Toddler Immunization month is to raise public awareness of the need to fully immunize every child by age two. California surveys indicate that 50% of children two years of . age and younger are under immunized, and at unnecessary risk of contacting numerous potentially life threatening childhood diseases. The basic series of immunizations against childhood diseases should be completed before a child's second birthday. Contact Person: Wendel Brunner, M.D. S CC: ATTESTED Public Health Administration PHIL BATCHEL�OF THE BOARD OF Health Services Administration SUPERVISORS AND COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR LTImunization Assistance Program BY DEPUTY M382 (10/88) BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY IN THE 1NG4TIER OF PROMOTING RESOLUTION NO. 951193 The Month of May as: "Toddler Immunization Month" WHEREAS recent California surveys indicate 50% of California children are not up-to-date with their immunizations by two years of age; and WHEREAS the childhood diseases of polio, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, mumps, rubella and Hib meningitis still pose a threat to unimmunized children, and complications of these diseases are often devastating to both patients and their families; and WHEREAS virtually all children attending schools and licensed day care centers in Contra Costa County are protected by these immunizations because schools and centers enforce the California School Immunization Law; and WHEREAS the basic series of immunizations against childhood diseases should be completed before a child's second birthday; and WHEREAS the Contra Costa County Health Services Department, Public Health will hold daily immunization clinics where toddlers can be immunized during May; and WHEREAS private physicians throughout the county also will be making special efforts to encourage parents to bring their young children in for needed immunizations during May; NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, That the Members proclaim the month of May of each year "Toddler Immunization Month" and request the support of Contra Costa County residents and organizations in this effort to protect our children between age one and two years from dangerous diseases. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 9th day of May, 1995.
