Miner, Executive Director I Contra Costa County Private Industry Council ► SUBJECT: Salary Re-allocation for PIC SYJP Intern Worker Please review the attached P-300 requesting your approval and Board action to re-allocate the exempt classification of Manpower SYJP-Worker-Project to a salary schedule which will generate a flat monthly rate and an hourly temporary wage of $6.50 per hour. The Project classification is used exclusively by PIC to hire youth SYJP workers as temporary employees at worksites through non-financial agreements, with the Chevron Corporation and local State Employment Development Department Offices. The salary allocation for this position has been an hourly temporary rate of $6.25 for the past four years. In concert, with inflationary salary increases for the past four years in the County, we need to allocate a rate equivalent to labor market information and job responsibility to recruit and maintain summer positions in this classification. Otherwise we are in danger of losing interns to the better paying job orders that they are processing. The temporary SYJP positions are funded by a Chevron Corporation private donation to generate summer jobs and meaningful work experience for county youths at no cost to the County. PIC staff has already coordinated this P-300 with the Personnel Department. For SYJP program implementation, i.e. , recruitment, job placement and training of youths., it is requested that the salary allocation of $6.50 per hour be effective May 1, 1995.
