Joseph Ma of the Coordination Council for North American Affairs contacted my office
yesterday to request my assistance in arranging a visit to our county for Su-chun (Carol) Li, a
Junior Official of the Office of the President of the Republic of China.
Ms. Li is pursuing a degree in International Development Policy at Duke University. She
expects to be in the Bay Area on May 15 and 16 and would like to meet with county staff
responsible for policy analysis.
Please reference the attached correspondence received from Mr. Ma.

I am writing to request an opportunity to visit your institution at a time convenient
to you between May 11 and May 16,
1 am currently pursuing an advanced degree through the Program in International
Development Policy (PIDP) at the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Polley at Duke
University. I am majoring In policy analysis, particularly foreign and enN ironmental policy.
Not contented to limit my education to what I have learned at Duke, I would like to
evaluate to what extent academic research has been applied to policy analysis, and to talk
with people about their practical work experiences. Since your institution is among those I
take great interest in, I would appreciate it if you would kindly arrange for me to take a
half-day tour of your institution and meet with people in charge of policy analysis.
