HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04041995 - S.1 S. 1 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on April 4, 1995 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Rogers, Smith, DeSaulnier, Torlakson, Bishop NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBJECT: Proposal for the Establishment of a Contra Costa County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council The Board considered the recommendation of Supervisors Bishop and DeSaulnier for the Board of Supervisors to declare its intent to sponsor an advisory domestic violence coordinating council established under the auspices of the Superior Court. A copy of the recommendation presented is attached and included as a part of this Board Order. The following persons spoke: Greg Willis, 71 Flora Court, Pleasant Hill; Jennifer Wyllie-Pletcher, Battered Women's Alternatives, P. O. Box 323, Martinez; Deedee Jenson, Safe Homes Task Force/Battered Women's Alternatives, 19 Dudley Court, Pleasant Hill; and Grace Ellis, 1718 Via del Verdes, Concord. All persons desiring to speak were heard. The Board having discussed the matter and having concurred, IT IS ORDERED that the proposal for an advisory domestic, violence coordinating council is REFERRED to the Family and Human Services Committee. A steering committee has been established to guide the advisory council. The steering committee includes representatives of the following group: Presiding Judge of Superior and Municipal courts, Supervising Family Law Judge and Juvenile Judge, Superior Court CIerk, Probation Department, the District Attorney and Public Defender, Sheriff`s Office and police departments representative (Chief of Police group), and Battered Women's Alternatives. The advisory council will consist of representatives from the following: Contra Costa County Superior Court, Contra Costa County Municipal Court, Contra Costa County Superior Court Clerk, Contra Costa County Court Administrator, Contra Costa County Probation Department, Contra Costa County District Attorney, Victim Assistance Program, Contra Costa County Public Defender and Alternative Defender, Contra Costa County Family Court Services, Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office, Police Departments, Contra Costa County Welfare Department, Contra Costa County Department of Mental health, Contra Costa County Department of Education, Contra Costa County Children's Protective Services, and the County Hospital. In addition to these public agency representatives, the steering committee could invite the following groups to provide representatives for the advisory coucil: the Contra Costa County Bar Association, domestic violence prevention advocates, batterers' treatment providers, and the victim's assistance program. Each member of the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors could be asked to appoint a person to the advisory council with interest in the subject of domestic violence. B r d: The purpose of the Contra Costa County Advisory Domestic Violence Coordinating Council is to reduce and prevent domestic violence in Contra Costa by enhancing the response of primary service providers. The goals are to work toward the establishment of a coordinated, integrated system-wide response to domestic violence, provide a working forum for interaction and information exchange among agencies dealing with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, and identify and analyze the components of current responses to domestic violence and make recommendations to policy-makers regarding appropriate changes.
