In fact, through the outstanding efforts of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the Bay Area has been a leading force in the field of air pollution control and has implemented some of the most stringent and effective control programs in the world; and WHEREAS, the federal government will no longer have to duplicate the oversight role already being accomplished effectively by the state; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa residents and businesses, in addition to the obvious benefits of cleaner air to breath, will be relieved of potential sanctions that can be imposed for being in "non-attainment" such as higher gas taxes and bridge tolls on every resident who drives a car; and WHEREAS, the entire Bay Area will be recognized for our long-standing efforts that resulted in such dramatic improvement in air quality; and WHEREAS, even though federal ozone standards have been met, work will continue to meet more strict state standards. Government, business and the public must continue to do their part to implement all feasible measures in the future to make progress toward attainment of the state ozone standard, and even cleaner air: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors applauds the efforts of all the parties involved, in particular, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, local business and. industry, and all of our residents; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; that the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors recognizes the week of April 24, 1995 as "Ozone Redesignation Week" in Contra Costa County.
