CALIFORNIANS AGAINST UTILITY COMPS ABUSE
March 24, 1945
The Honorable Gayle Bishop
651 tine Street
Martinez,CA,95443
Dear Supervisor Bishop-
Here is a copy of Consumer Countdown which provides an update of the ratepayer revolt
against'the$335 million hidden consumer tax proposed by the state's four largest utilities to
finance their profit-seeking ventures in electric and natural gas vehieles.
More than 2,700 companies and organizations--representing consumers, small business,
agriculture, ail, manufacturers, transportation, taxpayers, water districts, senior and minorities
have now joined in opposition to this hidden consumer and business tax.
The reason for our opposition is this: Californians Already pay electric rates 3+hich art
acan a<m--NO% hightf thn LhQse}e W Wt according to energy regulatory
specialists Barcovich&Yap. These outrageous rates hurt residents, and make California business
less competitive.
We have no problem with utilities getting into the electric or natural gas vehicle business.
Out if they do,those investments should be funded by company shareholders-- not
ra(ennying homeowners,husintases andrenter.
We hope you will join us in the fight to protect California's energy customers by joining
Californians Against Utility Company Abuse. Attached is a coalition forme which you may return
by fax.
If you have any questions or want further information, please give me a call at(415) 340-
0470.
Sincerely,
David Fogarty
