HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04251995 - 1.104 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA ADOPTED this order on April 25 , 1995 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Rogers , Smith, DeSaulnier , Torlakson and Bishop NOES : None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None RESOLUTION NO. 95/ 162 SUBJECT: DEDICATION OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY ) FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT (KNIGHTSEN) STATION) ANTIQUE FIRE ENGINES } WHEREAS, the former Oakley Fire Protection District (annexed to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District effective July 1, 1994 ) served the ' communities of Oakley and Knightsen; and WHEREAS, for many years the Knightsen firefighters have supported a Knightsen Firefighters Association; and WHEREAS, the Knightsen Firefighters Association has restored and/or is in the process of restoring and maintaining a 1942 Chevrolet Vanpelt fire engine, license 122933, VIN BG347517, C.C.C. #14346 and a 1950 Chevrolet Vanpelt fire engine, license 122932, VIN GTWF2367 , C.C.C. #14305, which are no longer of any operational use to the District; and WHEREAS, the Knightsen Firefighters Association has been maintaining these antique fire engines for ceremonial or educational purposes such as parades , civic events and fire education programs and wishes to continue to do so; and WHEREAS, the Knightsen Firefighters Association has requested that title to the fire engines be transferred to the Association to ensure that the vehicles remain in the community to be used as mentioned above; and WHEREAS, it has been determined that it would be more advantageous from the standpoint of insurance coverage and the long-term preservation of the vehicles for the Fire District to retain title to the apparatus; and WHEREAS, in the event that the Association is dissolved, the District and the Association agree that said vehicles shall continue to be maintained and stored in the Knightsen area for fire prevention education, public display and community activities; and WHEREAS, the Contra Costa County Fire Chief supports the concept of the .District retaining title while allowing the Association to restore, maintain and use the vehicles as discussed above subject to the prior authorization of the Association and the Fire Chief; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY HEREBY DETERMINES that, in recognition of the efforts of the Knightsen Firefighters Association in restoring the 1942 and 1950 Chevrolet Vanpelt fire engines through the volunteer labor of its members, the antique vehicles will be maintained in the Knightsen area and restricted for usage by the Association primarily in Contra Costa County.
