SUBJECT: 1995/96 Transportation Development Act Program Applications for Pedestrian and Bicycle
Projects.

SPECIFIC REQUESTS) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. Recommended Action:
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director to claim Transportation Development Act
(TDA) application, Article 3, Bike/Pedestrian funds for the Bicycle Safety Education Program.
11. Financial Impact:
There will be no impact to the General Funds.
TDA funding will be applied for 100 percent of the bicycle education project costs. Total project
cost is estimated at $20,000.
III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background:
The bicycle safety education project will be managed by the County's Health Services
Department. The project focuses on safety education for adult and child bicyclists, distribution
of safety materials, motorist education, and hazard removal to decrease injuries and fatalities to
bicyclists.
Failure to approve this project will eliminate a potential funding source (at no cost to the County)
to promote bicycle safety in the County.
