We would like to SECRETARY have your support for our efforts and specifically to invite you to attend the dedication of our new filtration DAVID J.LEVY ultraviolet disinfection system on February 25, 1995, in ATTORNEY Martinez, California. RANDOLPH W.LEPTIEN The Mt . View Sanitary District is a small .publicly owned ENGINEER treatment works, located approximately 35 miles northeast of San Francisco. The District was established in 1923 and serves a population of 25, 000 . Despite our small size, we are proud to be the first public treatment facility in Northern California to utilize ultraviolet light for full scale disinfection of wastewater. This method of disinfection eliminates the use of gaseous chlorine and several other acutely hazardous materials that threaten the environment . Our primary concerns in employing this technology were to increase safety for our workers and the community and to safeguard the environment . This new system has already saved the taxpayers of our district hundreds of thousands of dollars and has the potential to save more . This project was a major undertaking for us in which we needed to win approval from the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board and the California State Health Department based on studies performed in our own treatment facilities . This state-of-the-art ultraviolet disinfection method proved to be as effective as chlorination and meets EPA requirements . P.O.
