MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: JUNE 21, 1994 SUBJECT: PREAPPLICATION FOR $500,000 FEDERAL GRANT FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AT CONTRA COSTA COUNTY-BYRON AIRPORT, PROJECT #AIP 3-06-0008-08 SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. Recommended Action: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or his designee, to submit a preapplication for a Federal Grant out-of the Airport Improvement Program in the amount of$500,000 (90% of the total project). II. Financial Impact: The total cost of the project is $555,556. Ten percent (10%) of the project, in the amount of $55,556, is the responsibility of Contra Costa County and will be funded out of the Airport Enterprise Fund. III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background: The projects requested in AIP Project No. 3-06-0008-08 are primarily projects intended to finish the development of the new Byron Airport. This Grant request includes items of work that were not constructed in previous grants due to budgetary constraints and other uncertainties. However, these improvements are essential to the ultimate operation of the new facility. The following is a description of the projects: 1) Complete access road; 2) stabilize pavement shoulders; 3) pave safety areas; and 4) Wetlands restoration.
