IN THE MATTER OF PROCLAIMING) RESOLUTION NO. 94/240

SUICIDE PREVENTION WEEK IN )
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY )
WHEREAS, the week of May 1-7, 1994 has been designated by
the American Association of Suicidology, and will be observed
nationally as Suicide Prevention Week; and
WHEREAS, suicide is the second leading cause of death among
adolescents and young adults in the United States; and the eighth
leading cause of death overall; and
WHEREAS, since 1963, Crisis and Suicide Intervention of
Contra Costa has served the County or Contra Costa by providing
free crisis intervention and suicide prevention services,
including 24-hour hotline, grief counseling and community
education, serving over 40, 000 Contra Costa residents each year;
and
WHEREAS, The County of Contra Costa supports Crisis and
Suicide Intervention of Contra Costa in their vital and dedicated
efforts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of Contra Costa County on behalf of the citizens does hereby
PROCLAIM the week of May 1-7, 1994 as SUICIDE PREVENTION WEEK in
Contra Costa County, and urges all citizens, businesses, public
and private agencies, media, . religious, and educational
institutions to be aware of and support the efforts of Crisis and
Suicide Intervention of Contra Costa to provide suicide
prevention and intervention services to members of our community.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on
this 3rd day of May, 1994 .
