HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05031994 - 1.28 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA In the Matter Proclaiming May As "Drowning Prevention Month" in Contra Costa County Resolution No. 94/ 238 WHEREAS, the greatest danger with residential pools is drowning among children and for many families in our. area, this tragedy turns an enjoyable summer season into a devastating time; and WHEREAS, childhood drowning is the second leading cause of injury death in Contra Costa County and the leading cause of injury death to children ages one to four in California; and WHEREAS,because of the efforts of the Drowning Prevention Foundation, childhood drowning incidents have been drastically reduced in Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS, with this proclamation, the Drowning Prevention Foundation plans to launch a massive educational campaign in conjunction with Kaiser Permanente called "Safe Kids/Safe Pools: Kids Aren't Drown Proof' aimed at promoting drowning prevention awareness in Contra Costa County: - NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County proclaims May as "Drowning Prevention Month" launching a much needed anti-drowning education campaign which will focus attention on this preventable killer of children.
