Lafayette is concerned that the proposal could represent a diminution of local control and advises you to carefully consider the implications of your vote. Specifically, the Lafayette Council strongly urges you to retain a fire service structure whereby people living in special fire zones can opt to pay for a higher level of service depending upon their circumstance. Orindans, for instance, may wish to pay for higher levels of service because they live in a densely wooded area; people and companies which reside in Martinez may, likewise, wish to retain enhanced service levels due to the proximity of the refineries. Please feel free to call me if you have questions about our position on this issue. Sincerely, Anne Grodin Mayor cc: Lafayette City Council .
