2 . ADJUST the sunset date for the Newcomers ' Task Force so that
the current authorization for the Task Force expires May 1,
1995, rather than December 31, 1994 , in view of the fact that
it has taken longer than anticipated to get all members
appointed to the Task Force.
3 . REQUEST Supervisor Gayle Bishop to consider as one of her
appointees to the Newcomers ' Task Force:
Jack H. Nakashima
2640 San Carlos Drive
Walnut Creek, CA 94598
BACKGROUND:
The Internal Operations Committee has been recruiting applicants
for the five at-large seats on the Newcomers ' Task Force. We have
received six applications . On April 11, 1994 we interviewed three
of these applicants . The others were unable to be present for the
interview, but we have carefully received their applications . We
find all six applicants extraordinarily well qualified for and
interested in the Newcomers ' Task Force and the issues of refugees
and immigrants . One of the applicants, Mr. Nakashima, resides in
Supervisor Bishop' s district. We would like to ask that Supervisor
Bishop consider Mr. Nakashima for one of her appointees to the Task
Force. The other five applicants are being recommended for
membership on the Task Force.
We are also recommending that the sunset date for the Task Force be
extended to May 1, 1995, rather than December 31, 1994 , since it
has taken somewhat longer to make all of the appointments than we
had anticipated. It was the Board' s original intent to provide a
one-year period of time within which the Task Force would prepare
its Work Plan. Extending the sunset date to May 1, 1995 will be
consistent with the Board' s original intention in this regard.
