SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
Recommendation
Proclaim April 28, 1994 as "Take Our Daughters to Work Day" as requested by Local 535 SEIU (Service
Employers International Union) and the Ms. Foundation for Women, to encourage adults to take their girls -
daughters, granddaughters, nieces, relatives or friends (aged 9 - 15) to their workplaces on April 28, 1994.
This national event is designed to focus on girls' ideas, problems, spirit and dreams.
Background
A letter from Local 535 SEIU was received by Supervisor Gayle Bishop on March 23, 1994 requesting
proclamation of April 28, 1994 as the second annual "Take Our Daughters to Work Day." This very special
national event was developed in response to research which shows that girls have a loss of self esteem
during adolescence.
The purpose of this day is to link girls with working women and the possibilities of dreams fulfilled.
