IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 9 4/19 8
Congratulating Hermelinda Gutierrez
on being chosen "Parent of the Year"by
the California Association of Bilinqual
Education
WHEREAS,Hermelinda "Mela"Gutierrez, a native of Mexico, is the mother of seven chil-
dren. Three of her children attend Mt. Diablo High School in Concord and three are students at
Shore Acres Elementary School where she volunteers in the school's parent room and supervises
the playground;
she teaches reading and writing to Spanish-speaking adults and babysits for
others so they can take English classes. She also sits on the school's Bilingual Advisory Council,
which helps guide the biingual education program;
WHEREAS,she has helped to bridge the communication gap between Spanish-Speaking
and English-speaking parents;
WHEREAS,Mela's dedication was recognized by the California Association of Bilingual
Education in presenting her"Parent of the Year"award.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors congratulates
Hermelinda"Mela" Gutierrez on being named "Parent of the Year"by the California Association
of Bilinqual Education and commends her for her outstanding service to her school and commu-
nity.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 19th Day of April, 1994.
