DATE: April 12, 1994
SUBJECT: REPORT FROM COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR REGARDING CRIMINAL JUSTICE
ADMINISTRATIVE (BOOKING) FEE
Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) & Background & Justification
RECOMMENDATION:
Direct and authorize County Administrator to continue to charge a Criminal
Justice Administrative (Booking) Fee of $121 through May 31, 1994 .
REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
On March 22, 1994 , the Board of Supervisors adopted an Ordinance to increase
the Criminal Justice Administrative (Booking) Fee to $137 . The Ordinance
goes into effect April 22, 1994 . At the March 15, 1994 public hearing, the
Board directed the County Administrator to meet with concerned arresting
agencies to review the fee calculation and to discuss their concerns about
the fee increase. Because of unavoidable scheduling conflicts, the County
Administrator' s Office has been unable to schedule such an meeting with a
committee of the Police Chiefs' Association set up for that purpose. At this
point, it is anticipated that this meeting will take place sometime in May.
In order to allow time for such a meeting and to discuss concerns of the
various arresting agencies, it is recommended that the County Administrator
be allowed to continue to bill cities and other arresting agencies for
chargeable bookings for the period April 22, 1994 through May 31, 1994 at the
current amount of $121 per booking, or $16 less than $137 .
