Hunger Awareness Week in )
Contra Costa County ) Resolution No. 94/ 137
WHEREAS, the number of hungry people in Contra Costa County is increasing,
despite the efforts of local charities to provide food to residents in need; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Food Bank and its network of 195 member agencies
is helping to feed more than 37,000 individuals every month, and the demand
keeps growing; and
WHEREAS, local charities and jurisdictions are taking steps to improve this
situation, which threatens the health and well-being of our community. The real
answers to the problem of hunger, however, require the education and
participation of all citizens of Contra Costa County:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares
March 27 - April 2, 1994 as Hunger Awareness Week in Contra Costa County.
This action is taken to publicize this important issue and to garner additional
support from all sectors of the community in the fight against hunger.

Tom Powers, Supervisors present on March 8, 1994.
