SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE NEWCOMERS' TASK FORCE
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1 . ENCOURAGE Supervisors Bishop, McPeak and Torlakson to make
their appointments to the NewcomersTask Force at their
earliest opportunity.
2 . EXTEND the time period for the receipt of applications for the
at-large seats on . the Newcomers ' Task Force to 5 : 00 P.M. ,
Friday, April 1, 1994 .
3 . CONCUR with the plans of the Internal Operations Committee to
interview all applicants for seats on the Newcomers' Task
Force on April 11, 1994 and make further recommendations to
the Board of . Supervisors for appointments to the at-large
seats following those interviews .
BACKGROUND:
The Newcomer' s Task Force consists of 15 members, two nominated by
each member of the Board of Supervisors and five members nominated
by the Internal Operations Committee. The Internal Operations
Committee has all five of the at-large seats to fill .
Supervisors Powers and Smith have made their appointments . On
March 14 , 1994 our Committee met with Community Services Director
Joan Sparks and Mary Rosas, who will be staffing the Newcomers '
Task Force. Since we only have four applications, we are asking
that the deadline for applications be extended through April 1,
1994 and that our Committee be authorized to interview all
applicants and make further recommendations to the Board of
Supervisors following those interviews .

SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE EWCOMERS' TASK FORCE
The Board of Supervisors has agreed to form a Newcomers ' Task
Force. It is to have 15 members. Two members are to be nominated
by each member of the Board of Supervisors and five members are to
be nominated by your Committee.
