HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03221994 - 1.22 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Honoring ) SUPERVISOR SUNNE WRIGHT M&EA.K ) RESOLUTION NO. 941155 on the Occasion of Her Retirement from the ) Contra Costa County Board of&pervisors ) WHEREAS, Sunne Wright McPeak has spent the past IS years diligently serving the citizens of Contra Costa County in the elected position of Supervisor of District IV; and WHEREAS, Supervisor McPeak's strong leadership is evidenced by her numerous accomplishments. She has the unique ability to bring people together on a project and to garner consensus even on the most difficult of issues; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Contra Costa County can thank Supervisor McPeak for--to name but a few-- the Transportation and Growth Management measure (Measure C, 1988), the Urban Limit Line measure (Measure. C, 1990); the 1-680124 Interchange Project; the Child Care Ordinance; the Deadbeat Parents Program; local welfare reform; the Productivity, Evaluation, and Performance Program; numerous water conservation ordinances; the Partnership for a Drug-Free Contra Costa; the county's Pay Equity, Affirmative Action, and Family Leave policies; and the Affordable Housing Trust Fund...the list goes on; and WHEREAS, Supervisor McPeak's influence has also been felt on a statewide level. In 1982, she co- chaired the first successful statewide initiative in 30 years to stop the Peripheral Canal; wrote the California Child Care Partnership Act which was adopted by the Legislature;authored the Delta Levee legislation;facilitated a statewide Memorandum of Understanding for Urban Water Conservation which was signed by the Governor; formed the California Affordable Housing Partnership; and founded the California Council on Partnerships; and WHEREAS, Supervisor McPeak is not only a superior leader, she is a compassionate, loyal, sincere, honest, and extremely intelligent individual whose only goal is to improve the quality of life for the citizens she serves. She has often been characterized as having a dynamic personality, which is apparent by her innovative ideas and never-ending energy to implement those ideas; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County government is losing one of its brightest stars. We will miss Supervisor McPeak, but she has left us a legacy that the citizenry of the county will continue to benefit from for many years to come. NOW, THEREFORE, BE ITRESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors SUPERVISOR SUNNE WRIGHT McPEAK on the occasion of her retirement from the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, and we extend our warmest thanks to her for her 15 years of dedicated service and our best wishes for much happiness and success with her future endeavors.
