Dear Tom: Thank you for sending me the resolutions passed by the Board of Supervisors in support of special transportation demonstration , projects in Contra Costa County. I am pleased that the Board has approved these resolutions, and I hope that you will pass along my congratulations to the other Supervisors. As you know, I have already submitted to the Public Works and Transportation Committee proposals for federal funding to: 1) widen State Route 4 from Bailey Road to Railroad Avenue, 2) construct an interchange for State Route 4 and the proposed Delta Expressway, and 3) to construct an auxiliary lane on I-680 between Sycamore Valley Road and Diablo Road. The Subcommittee on Surface Transportation is holding hearings on the National Highway System in early March, at which time I will testify on behalf of these important projects. You should be aware that the competition for federal transportation f unding is fierce, in light of the budget squeeze. Although the battle for funding will be difficult, you can rest assured that I am committed to working hard to bring federal assistance to the transportation needs of the 10th Congressional District. I look forward to working with you to meet the needs of Contra Costa County, Tom. Please do not hesitate to call or write anytime you feel that I might be of assistance to you. 3Si cerely, ' 1 Baker Member of Congress B)B:bw Pr c) PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER BILL BAKER " COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS 10TH DISTRICT,CALIFORNIA AND TRANSPORTATION ❑ WASHINGTON OFFICE SUBCOMMITTEES: 1724 LONGWORTN BURDING ' ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WASHINGTON.DC 20515-0510 INVESTIGATIONS AND OVERSIGHT (202)225-1880 SURFACE TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT OFFICES COMMITTEE ON SCIENCE, ❑ 1BO1 NORTH CALIFORNIA BLVD.
