IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO.94/113
Congratulating Nancy Parent
on being named Pittsburg's
1994 Citizen of the Year
Nancy Parent was named Citizen of the Year by the Pittsburg
Chamber of Commerce and honored on January 29, 1994,in recognition of her outstanding
and dedicated service to the community. This same honor was bestowed upon her in 1983;
and
WHEREAS,Nancy was a former teacher at Pittsburg High School. She
graduated from Hastings College of Law in 1970 and began her law practice in Pittsburg in
1976;
VVI�REAS,she was elected to serve on the Pittsburg Unified School Board
from 1976 until-1981.
VAiEREAS,as a further fulfillment of her commitment to community serv-
ice, Nancy ran for a seat on the Pittsburg City Council and was elected in 1984. She was the
city's first woman mayor in 1985 and was again chosen to serve as mayor by the City Council
in 1989; and
WHEREAS,Nancy has been a member of th Soroptomist International of
Pittsburg since 1977. She volunteers at Los Medanos Community Hospital and was a
founder of Delta 2000 and still sits on that Board of Directors. She served as a member of
the Seafood Festival Committee from 1985 to 1992;
NOW,THEREFORE.,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County
Board of Supervisors commends Nancy Parent for her unselfish and.civic-minded commit-
ment to her community and congratulates her on her selection as Pittsburg's 1994 Citizen of
the Year.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 1st day of
March 1994.
