HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07131993 - S.5 S,S IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring July 16, 1993 ) as MARY LOU LAUBSCHER DAY in ) RESOLUTION NO. 9314 0 8 Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, Mary Lou Laubscher has tirelessly served her community as Executive Director of the Cambridge Community Center since 1980. Her devotion to providing shelter,food, training, clothing, and child care to the poor and working class citizens of Contra Costa County is extensive and appreciated immeasurably. In July, Mary Lou will be retiring; and WHEREAS, Mary Lou has been contributing to her community since she first moved to Concord in 1954. While raising her own four children, she also found time to raise seven foster children and be active in volunteer groups such as the PTA, scouting, and advocacy for public parks; and WHEREAS, Mary Lou's activities at her children's elementary school led her to become part of the committee that founded Cambridge Community Center. During this time, Mary Lou was able to complete her Master's Degree in Public Administration which contributed to her becoming the Executive Director at Cambridge; and WHEREAS, Mary Lou is a member of Contra Costa County's Family and Children's Services Advisory Committee, Human Services Advisory Board, and is Chair of the Homeless Task Force. The Board of Supervisors depends on her expertise and innovative advice to deliver many of the county's services to the public; and WHEREAS, due to Mary Lou's persistence and cajoling, SHELTER, Inc., was formed in the mid- eighties to address the county's homeless issues. Today, SHELTER, Inc., runs four homeless shelters and provides other services to prevent homelessness. Mary Lou sits on its Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, Mary Lou is an extremely special person who is loved and needed by many, many people in Contra Costa County. Because of her efforts and her rare talent of motivating people to give of their time and resources, Cambridge Community Center is what it is today. The motto of Cambridge is "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," and Mary Lou has lived her entire life by this creed. The legacy she leaves will continue to thrive because of the secure foundation she has laid. We are all fortunate to have benefitted from her generous compassion, loving spirit, and diligence. She has forever improved our quality of life. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares July 16, 1993, as MARY LOU LAUBSCHER DAY in Contra Costa County on the occasion of her retirement from Cambridge Community Center. PASSED AND ADOPTED ON July 13, 1993, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present.
