MICHAEL WALFORD, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DATE: June 8, 1993 SUBJECT: ADULT SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS (0360-2310) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) &BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. Recommended Action: Authorize the Public Works Director to sign the Crossing Guard Agreement with the Richmond Unified School District for Fiscal Year 1992-93. II. Financiallmpact: Estimated Fiscal Year 1992-93 cost of$18,376.00 will be funded from the General Fund Budget for crossing guards. III. Reasons for Recommendations and Background: The Board of Supervisors adopted a policy for providing school crossing protection on April 3, 1979. The Board amended its policy on May 7, 1987. Pursuant to this policy, a crossing guard is warranted on Arlington Avenue at Rincon Road in Kensington, and on San Pablo Dam Road at May Road in the Richmond area. These two Crossing Guards have been operating for several years, and have been financed by the County. IV. Consequences of Negative Action: There would be no crossing guards at these two street crossings.
