SUBJECT: EXTENSION OF HOMELESS SHELTER PROGRAM CONTRACTS
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDATIONS :
A. DIRECT AND AUTHORIZE the Executive Director of the
Housing Authority of the County of . Contra Costa, on
behalf of the County, to execute an Amendment of Contract
No. 93-1 with Shelter, Inc . in the amount of $20, 011 'to
extend the operation of the 60 bed Central County Shelter
in North Concord from July 1, 1993 to July 31, 1993 .
B. DIRECT AND AUTHORIZE the Executive Director of the
Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa, on
behalf . of the County, to extend the Interdepartmental
Agreement with the Sheriff ' s Department for a payment
limit of $7 ,440 to supply meals to homeless persons
residing at the Central County Shelter for the period of
July 1, 1993 to July 31, 1993 .
II . FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost to operate the homeless shelter program at the
Central County site for one month is $38, 127 . County General
Funds will be used to support the cost of shelter operations,
food, trash removal, utilities, sanitary district fees,
repairs & maintenance, and security.

III . BACKGROUND/ REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS :
At the June 8th meeting of the Board o•f Supervisors, the
Homeless Advisory Committee (HAC) requested that the Board
continue to fund the two county shelter's through the month of
July to allow more time to identify//additional funding for
shelter operations . At their June 1,5th meeting, the Board of
Supervisors expressed its commitment to identify funds for the
continued operation of the C7ntral County Shelter and
authorized a loan of $40,000 from County General Funds to
extend the operation of the shelter for the month of July.
The Board also authorizedl tters to be sent to cities,
businesses, and community and/religious groups in Contra Costa
County to request their support for the continued operation of
the County' s homeless shelter program.

III . BACKGROUND/ REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS:

businesses, and community and religious groups in Contra Costa
County to request their support for the continued operation of
the County's homeless shelter program.
