Commending the Martinez )
Manufacturing Complex of)
the Shell Oil Company ) Resolution No. 93/284
WHEREAS the Martinez Manufacturing Complex of the Shell Oil
Company is a dynamic force in the economy of the County and
significant presence in the structure of our community; and
WHEREAS the Martinez Complex has been recognized by its parent
organization for superiority during 1992 in the areas of health,
safety, the environment and operations for hard work, dedication,
and commitment toward achieving the Company' s overall objectives
and providing a safe place in which to work; and
WHEREAS Martinez Complex received Shell 's "Best Manufacturing
Location Award" for the third year in a row recognizing outstanding
overall performance, was given the "Environmental Excellence Award"
for the fourth straight year, and again the "Safety Award for
Excellence"; and in addition, received the National Petroleum
Refinery Association's "Distinguished Safety Award" for attaining
a superior level of safety performance in the petroleum refining
industry; and
WHEREAS the excellent performance of the Martinez Manufacturing
Complex employees reflects highly not only on their Company but on
the entire Contra Costa community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF
CONTRA COSTA, CALIFORNIA, RESOLVED that the Martinez Manufacturing
Complex of the Shell Oil Company is COMMENDED for its superior
performance during 1992 .
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 4th
day of May, 1993.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
a resolution entered in the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on
the date aforesaid.

HEALTH, SAIEWry, TOP, EWIROMMUT AND OPERATIONS
The Martinez Manufacturing Complex has been recognized by
Shell Oil Company'r. Products Organization for superiority in all
areais by which performance is measured, most notably health,
ssfetyo the environment and opc4tations*
Martinez was naiied Shell*k 1-t6st'Refining Location" for than
third year in a row and also won top environmental honors. for the
fourth straight year. in addition, the Cosplex won the "."fety
Award for Excellence," which was last won by the Complex In 1988.
The Xartinez safety record for 1992 also received national
recognition, The Refinery was one of three facilities to win the
"Distinguished Safety Award" from the National Petroleum Refinery
Association (XP9A). The XPRA represents 6o member companies with
fac3lities including 02 refineries.
Complex Manager Bob Andrews said being able to "three-peat"
in the Best Location category and "clean-sweeping", all. the
awards Shell's Products organization bestows males the 1992
performance a "very significant accomplishment, especially When
taking into account the exceptional performance turned in by all
manufacturing locations."
Ron Banducci,, Shell's General Manager of manufacturing-oil,
takes special pride in Martinez CoupleX acc0WPli,6hWMts, as is
evident in a wire he sent congratulating each and every Martinez
employee for winning the Safety and. Environmental kxmllence
Awards.
211TAese awards are given in reoognition of the hard
work, dedication, and commitment toward achieving
environmental objectives and providing a safe work place for
yourself and your fellow eloployeev.," his wire said in part.
"Your 1992 accomplishments Were a team effort of which you
can all be proud."
Employees will celebrate their "clean sweep" on April 7th,,
when Sbell0s senior management will travel frow Houston to
present the three awards.
