Re: Pinole creek
Dear Gentle Persons & Honorable Supervisors:
on a bi-annual basis myself and my neighbors become very
upset and. agitated at the continuing activities of the Flood
Control District.
Each spring the banks, the creek waters, and the peripheral
edges of Pinole Creek are sprayed with.herbicides to produced
a stunned earth environment. Some of, our backyard fences and
gardens have been zapped. Furthermore, each summer or fall
the Flood Control District assaults the creek bank with a
mowing machine which destroys any vegetation growing higher
than 6 inches.
Myself and my neighbors feel that the behavior of the Flood
Control District results in a waste of taxpayers' money and
is incompatible with the goals and policies of the open
space/conservation element of the County's General Plan,
which you have adopted.
What is needed is a method of brush control that will co-
exist with the riparian habitat which is presently being
eradicated on at least a bi-annual basis.
Why not make our creeks and waterways linear parks instead of
battlefields and wastelands-i' Please respond. I will be
delighted to help in any way.
Si rely yours,
Paul Howell
