HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05251993 - 1.24 ( .2 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Honoring ) John Cooper, Moraga Fire Chief ) Resolution No.: 9 3/314 On the Occasion of His Retirement. WHEREAS John Cooper retired as Chief of the Moraga Fire Protection District on March 29, 1993, after twenty-two years of capable and progressively more responsible service to the citizens of Contra Costa County and of the Town of Moraga; and WHEREAS John Cooper began his career in fire service with the Berkeley fire Department, where he worked from 1962 to 1965; and WHEREAS John Cooper moved on to the Contra Costa Fire District in 1965 rising from the rank of Senior Firefighter to Fire Captain in 1970, while also earning the title of EMS Instructor; and WHEREAS John Cooper joined the Moraga Fire Protection District in 1972 where he rose to the post of chief of the District, a position he held until his retirement, managing the District fire services and the highly-regarded paramedic/ambulance program, and served as a liaison to the Board of Supervisor, the Moraga Fire Protection District Board of Fire Commissioners; and the Rescue One Foundation; and WHEREAS John Cooper continued his education, receiving his BA, in Management Science from St. Mary's College in Moraga, and acquired the titles of State of California Certified Chief Fire Officer from the California Fire Academy in Monterey and that of F.E.M.A. Certified Executive Fire Officer from the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland; and WHEREAS John Cooper intends to use his stature in the Fire community to advocate for fire districts on the State level, a gracious and generous gift of time and talent by an exceptionally dedicated and conscientious former County employee. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby HONORS John Cooper on the occasion of his retirement from County service, C0NUKENDS John Cooper for his calm, effective leadership of the Moraga Fire Protection District, and EXTENDS TO John Cooper its best wishes for a retirement full of successful Statewide fire service advocacy, time to enjoy children, grandchildren. and opportunities to white water raft many more wild rivers. PASSED and ADOPTED this twenty-fifth day of May, by unanimous vote of the Board members present. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
