ATTESTED: ir/. 1953 PHIL BATffd R, lark of the Board of perMvAIW County ministrator 0 By ,Deauty 1 / IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA In the matter of Commemorating Dean Stanley Lesher RESOLUTION NO. 93/307 WHEREAS Dean Stanley Lesher devoted his talent, position and finances to the betterment of all of the citizens of Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS, born in Williamsport, Maryland, Mr. Lesher came to Contra Costa County with the purchase of a Walnut Creek newspaper in 1947, which, through vision, perseverance and keen business sense, became the foundation of a successful publishing empire which embodied his unshakable philosophy of providing local news to create a more informed community; and WHEREAS Dean Lesher used his financial resources, his seriousness of purpose and passion for education to enhance the educational opportunities of the people of his community through his support of St. Mary's College, John F. Kennedy University, the College of Holy Names and Merced Junior College; through scholarships; and through his persistence in creating the Cal State, Hayward satellite campus in Concord; and WHEREAS his love for life and desire to leave his community a better place inspired Mr. Lesher to help renovate hospitals, bolster community non profit social service agencies, and back civic arts projects such as the Concord Jazz Festival, Concord Pavilion and the Regional Center for the Arts; and WHEREAS the business community prospered through his convictions and dedication toward a strong foundation of self-reliance,encouraging the business boom along the Highway 680 corridor and deterring attempts to stifle economic development; and WHEREAS Dean Lesher will be remembered as a man who loved life; one who had a seriousness of purpose but a vivid sense of humor; a man who set high standards but reserved the highest for himself; a newspaperman, builder, businessman, patron of arts and education; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA,CALIFORNIA,RESOLVED that the passing of patron,servant,and friend,Dean Stanley Lesher, is COMMEMORATED for his contributions to the citizens of Contra Costa County. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 18th day of May, 1993.
