I am writing to ask for your support for AB 1624, a bill which I have introduced and which will be heard in the Assembly Rules Committee soon. I am enclosing a copy of this bill. AB 1624 would make available by electronic access all bills, bill histories, bill status, bill analyses, votes in committees and on the floors, veto messages, and the daily files(includes hearing schedules)of each house. I will be amending the bill to include the California Codes and Constitution. Anyone with a computer and modem will be able to access this information. You will not need to purchase any hardware to use the proposed system if you currently subscribe on-line. At this time, the only way to get this information by computer is to subscribe through an on- line provider. These costs, which include long-distance telephone charges, are quite expensive. I believe this information should be made available, if not for free, then at a nominal cost levied only to recoup the costs of providing the service. Should you elect to receive the legislative data you require through the proposed system, you will save your county the amount you are currently paying to the private on-line providers. For your information, the U.S. Supreme Court, the White House, the State of Hawaii, and many cities in California already make information available electronically. If you want additional information on this bill, pleas. cbn act Mary Winkley at (916) 445- 8528. If you support this concept, I would be grateful if you would write a letter to your Senator and Assemblymember with a copy to me. Thank you for taking the time to review this important piece of legislation. Sincerely, DEBRA BOWEN Assemblywoman, 53rd District Enclosure DB:mw Printed on Recycled Paper CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE-1993-94 REGULAR SESSION o' ASSEMBLY.
