of Her Retirement )
Juanita Orr has been a figure in Contra Costa's educational circles for 30 years. She has
dedicated herself to the teaching profession and to community service. Now, after a life-long
teaching career and 21 years with Contra Costa Community College, she is retiring.
Not only has Juanita influenced generations of students educationally, her commitment to serving
her community has been equally as great. Juanita has been extensively involved in Contra Costa
voter registration e„ orts for over 30 years; she is a member of Key Democratic Women, having
served as president and other executive offices; and has been involved in managing many
political campaigns. She is a member and past president of the Kennedy-King Scholarship Fund;
a founder of the Central Contra Costa Black Families Association; and founder and president
of the Pittsburg Chapter of NU MU Omega, a sorority dedicated to "service to mankind" by
awarding local scholarships and operating the Pittsburg "Reading is Fun"program among other
community efforts.
Contra Costa County is grateful to Juanita for her significant contributions at Contra Costa
Community College. She has served as a reading instructor, Chair of the English Department,
Head of the Communications and Arts Division, and most recently as Head of the Skills Center.
We are also deeply appreciative of her generous donations to the community, and we extend our
best wishes for her continued happiness and success during her retirement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors JUANITA ORR
on the occasion of her retirement from Contra Costa Community College.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON May 11, 1993, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present. ,
