Previously, one of the 9 Resident II positions was reduced to part-time, and the incumbent will not be moving on to a Resident III position before the current first-year residents are ready to transfer to the Resident II positions. This creates a shortage of 1 Resident II position. This action will remedy that shortage. The additional position results in additional costs of $34,248 per year to the Hospital Enterprise Fund, but this is an extremely inexpensive source of physician services for the Health Services Department's patients. These costs would be offset by third party revenue for services, such as Medi-Cal and private health insurance. cc: Claude Van Marter Sara Hoffman Lois Ellison i CONTRA COSTA COAWOIO ' HEALTH SERVICES DEPARWI MTAII11: 24 TO: Sara Hoffman APR 1 9 1993 Sr. County Deputy Administrator ____`___ FROM: Lois Ellison Personnel Officer DATE: April 12, 1993 SUBJECT: Residency Program Until recently, our Residency Program was comprised of nine fulltime slots for each of the three years, with an extra third year slot for a neurology resident funded by the VA. New Residents enter the program in June and each class "moves up" through the program on the two successive Junes. During the last few years, we have accommodated some of our female residents with young children, by allowing them to proceed through the program at a slower rate (part time) , thus disrupting, or staggering, the time frames in which they move between the levels. In anticipation of the arrival of our nine incoming first year residents. I have reviewed the current allocation of positions which is as follows: Resident I 9 fulltime positions Resident II : 8 fulltime, 1 part time Resident III: 10 fulltime (one of which works only part time) ; 1 part time Because the part time residents will not move along at the end of June, we will be short one second year position. To remedy that, I am submitting the attached P300 to add a fulltime Exempt Medical Staff Resident Physician II position. This must be agendaed before 6/22/93 so that the position is in place when the annual roll over takes place.
