Re: AB 1905; Law Enforcement Benefit Assessment,
Contra Costa County (Campbell)
Dear Supervisor Torlakson:
The Contra Costa County Police Chiefs'Association has endorsed the concept of a county-
wide law enforcement benefit assessment, as embodied in AB 1905. The Association will
provide direct support for its enactment into law, in cooperation with the applicable county
and city officials.
One member has made a very insightful recommendation. The Board of Supervisors
should be given the power to place the measure directly on the ballot(assuming the 50%
protest level had not been reached), thus submitting it to the vote of the People without
generating the ill-will and inflammatory rhetoric which arises from the otherwise
unnecessary 5% protest hearings. Perhaps Cuuniy Counsel could be requested to draft
the proposed revision.
