RECOMMENDATIONS:
1 . Appoint to the East Bay Regional Park District' s Park Advisory
Committee for a two year term expiring December 31, 1994 :

3 . Acknowledge the outstanding interest shown by the number of
applications- for these seats, encourage individual Board
members to consider making use of these dedicated citizens for
other appropriate appointments and authorize the Chairman to
forward a letter to the East Bay Regional Park District with
the names of all applicants, encouraging the District to find
some way for these citizens to participate in the work of the
District.
4 . Remove this item as a referral to our Committee.

BACKGROUND:
On January 5, 1993, the Board of Supervisors agreed to advertise
publicly for applicants for the Board's two seats on the East Bay
Regional Park District' s Park Advisory Committee. Our Committee
did so and received a total of 24 applications . We actually
interviewed 18 individuals on April 12, 1993 . This was a
singularly outstanding, well qualified, dedicated and knowledgeable
group of individuals who are committed to the importance of our
regional park system.
We have recommended the reappointment of Chuck Lewis, who has
served as one of the Board's appointees since 1989 . We have also
recommended the appointment of Mary Ann Gaebe to fill the other
seat. Because we were so impressed with the caliber of the
applicants for these two seats, we have forwarded copies of all of
.the applications to each member of the Board of Supervisors . We
would really encourage each member of the Board to consider any of
these individuals for appointment to any advisory boards dealing
with the environment or to using these individuals as an
environmental sounding board within your own district.
We are also asking that the Chairman be authorized to send a letter
to the East Bay Regional Park District, recommending the
appointment of any of these individuals to advisory groups within
the Park District.

Supervisors on the Park Advisory Committee. Please feel free to
contact me or other members of the Board of Supervisors whenever
you feel that an issue involving the East Bay Regional Park
District should be of concern to the Board of Supervisors . We
welcome your advice and counsel . As you know, your term will be
for two years, expiring December 31, 1994 . We understand you are
eligible to be considered for reappointment up to a total of six
years service.
