WHEREAS, vectors and pests such as mosquitoes, ticks,
yellowjackets and other animals are capable of transmitting disease
or causing injury to ' humans; and
WHEREAS, control and eradication of disease-carrying vectors
are important public health concerns; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement District provides
a county-wide program for the control of mosquitoes that carry
diseases such as encephalitis; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement District controls
mosquito populations while minimizing environmental impact through
techniques that include extensive marsh restoration projects and the
stocking of natural mosquito predators, such as the mosquitofish;
and
WHEREAS, the District' s aquaculture program produces
mosquitofish for releasing in creeks and ditches throughout the
county and provides county residents fish for stocking private ponds
at no charge; and
WHEREAS, Lyme disease is preventable through public awareness
and treatable when diagnosed in the early stages; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement District provides
the public, physicians and veterinarians tick identification
services and accurate information on Lyme disease and its
prevention; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement District, in
cooperation with seven other regional Vector Control Districts and
the State Department of Health, is sponsoring a public education day
on May 4 , 1993, aimed at- teaching school children about vectors and
ways of preventing them;
NOW, THEREFORE, . BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of
the County of Contra Costa, California hereby PROCLAIMS May, 1993 as
VECTOR CONTROL AWARENESS MONTH in Contra Costa County and encourages
all residents to avail themselves of the services and information
for vector control provided by the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement
District .
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this
27th day of April, 1993 .

Mosquito Abatement District
In the Matter of Proclaiming
"Vector Control Awareness Month"
in Contra Costa County
At a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement
District, a special district;organized and existing under the laws of the State of California,
held on the 8th day of March,' at 155 Mason Circle, Concord, California, a quorum being
present, the following Resolution was adopted:
WHEREAS, vectors and pests such as mosquitoes, ticks, yellowJackets and other
animals are capable of transmitting disease or causing injury to humans; and
WHEREAS, control and eradication of disease-carrying vectors are important public
health concerns; and
WHEREAS, the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement District provides a county-wide

I, FREDA ERICKSEN, the undersigned secretary of the said Board of Trustees of
the Contra Costa Mosquito Abatement District, a special district, hereby certify that I am
the Secretary of said special district, the foregoing is a full, true and correct copy of the
Resolution passed by the Board of Trustees thereof at a meeting of said Board held on the
day and at the place therein specified, and that said Resolution has never been revoked,
rescinded, or set aside, and is now in full force and effect.
