SUBJECT: SUMMARY OF MEETING WITH THE CHILD CARE TASK FORCE
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
Acknowledge receipt of this report regarding our Committee' s
meeting with the Child Care Task Force on March 22, 1993 .
BACKGROUND:
Our Committee met again with the Child Care Task Force on March 22,
1993 . Among the decisions which were made by the Task Force are
the following:
I . The Task Force is writing to the State Department of
Education, with copies of the letters to appropriate
legislators, urging an increase in the infant care rate, since
failure to increase the rate may well force a number of
providers to stop accepting infants .
2 . The Task Force agreed to join with the County Social Services
Department and Contra Costa Child Care Council in writing to
the State Department of Education indicating that the sub-
county rate structure which has been implemented in Contra
Costa County is creating more headaches that it cured because
of the multiplicity of rates now in effect and asking that the
State return to a single, countywide rate in Contra Costa
County.
3 . The Task Force agreed to write to Congressman George Miller,
asking that he contact the Department of Health & Human
Services and urge that they allow each state to define "part
day" and "full day" since otherwise providers in California
will have two different sets of definitions for how long a
part day or full day is . .

The Task Force endorsed SB 133 (Hill) which would allow
interns to gain practical experience toward their Marriage,
Family and Child Counselor (MFCC) licensure without having to
be in the same location as their employer, thereby making it
possible for such interns to be of assistance in child care
facilities .
The Task Force is continuing to work on the work plan which was
developed at the last meeting and approved by the Board of
Supervisors .
The next meeting of the Task Force is Monday, May 24, 1993 . We
will report back to the Board of Supervisors following that
meeting.
