CONTRA COSTA CO.
Dear Members of the Board :
We are enclosing copies of letters that we have written to our
State elected representatives , Rainey and Boatwright , in support of
SB 566 (Roberti) ,
We are among the 15 million California residents who are
registered borrowers in a public library. SB 566 if it becomes law
will enable local governments to use benefit assessment financing
for public libraries . This bill is critical to the financial
future of public libraries . It gives local governments a new
revenue source to replace lost revenues resulting from the State
budget crisis ,
We are asking you to use your influence with our locallly
elected people to support SB 566 . We would apreciate anything you
might 'be able to do to preserve our libraries.
Sincerely,
Mrs . Alice

Assemblyman Richard. K . Rainey
P.O . Box 4893
Walnut Creek , CA 94596
Dear Assemblyman Rainey:
This letter is to request that you vote in support of SB 566
(Roberti) which will provide new authority for local governments to
use benefit assessment financing for public library services . Like
most other local government services , public libraries throughout
California are suffering from budget shortages at the local level .
Most cities and counties have reduced their library services in
order to provide funds for other local services . However , public
library services must be preserved in order to meet the needs of
our children as well as the general public .
This bill will not appropriate any new State funds , but merely
provides a new local revenue option to finance public libraries . It
will allow cities and counties to .replace .revenues lost as a .result
of the State budget crisis . Public libraries are vital to the
future of our children. They are an important part of the State's
education system and must be preserved in order to assist the
schools . :Please vote to continue the future viability of public
libraries and their ongoing contribution to the educational.
informational and recreational needs of our community.
Please vote to support SB 566 .
Sincerely,
Mrs . Alice Johnson . President
