In the 24 years since the first Earth Day, progress has been made
in cleaning up the environment, but much still needs to be done.
Impacts, such as ozone depletion, air pollution, chemical spills,
and recycling have become much more critical to planet Earth' s
survival .
T-shirts will be available through Locals 2700 and 512 of the
American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union
(AFSCME) . The AFSCME business office at 1000 Court Street,
Martinez, has agreed to show their support of Earth Day by handling
the publicity, sale and distribution of the T-shirts.
By recognizing April 22 as Earth Day and authorizing all County
employees to wear Contra Costa Earth Day T-shirts, we can act
locally to educate and encourage everyone to do their part to make
this a cleaner Earth.
On the 20th celebration of Earth Day in 1990, the first Contra
Costa Earth Day was held. This year the 4th Annual Contra Costa
Earth Day Festival will be held at the Concord Pavilion on Sunday,
April 25, 1993, from 10 : 00 a.m. to 6 : 00 p.m. The attendance is
expected to be 30,000 .
