Walter F. Luihn Upon His ) RESOLUTION NO. 93/ 175
Retirement From Public Service )
WHEREAS, Walter F. Luihn has retired from his position of Assistant
Chief, Orinda Fire Protection District after 31 years of public
service, years marked by dedication, leadership and
professionalism; and
WHEREAS, Chief tuihn began his career with the District in October
1961 in the position of Firefighter, then in October 1966 he was
promoted to Senior Firefighter, and then promoted to Captain in
November 1969, and in April 1972 he gained the position of
Assistant Chief; and
WHEREAS, having received a Certificate of Achievement from Diablo
Valley College, an Associate of Arts Degree from Merritt College
and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of San Francisco,
Walt Luihn continued his lifelong educational achievements through
the State Board of Fire, State Fire Academies, National Fire
Academies and California Specialized Training Institute then shared
his expertise through teaching and curriculum and standards
development as a Master Instructor: and
WHEREAS, Chief Luihn demonstrated his leadership while serving as
President of the Contra Costa County Fire Chiefs Association,
California Fire Chiefs Association, Training Officers Section and
Contra Costa Training Officers Association; member of the State
Advisory Committee on Firefighter Curriculum, and the International
Association of Fire Chiefs Professional Development Committee; and
Chairman of numerous committees and workshops on training
throughout California; and
WHEREAS, his professionalism is reflected through participation in
the International Fire Chiefs Association, International Society of
Fire Service Instructors, California Fire Chiefs Association
Training Officers Section, National Fire Protection Association
Fire Service Section, Contra Costa Training Officers Association
and the California Fire Instructors Workshop Senior Staff;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA
COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that Walter F. Luihn is COMMENDED upon
his retirement for his exemplary record of public service to the
citizens of this County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on April 20, 1993 by unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
a resolution entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on
the date aforesaid.
