DATE: February 12, 1993
SUBJECT: proclaim March 14-20, 1993 as HIRE the Older Worker Week in Contra
Costa County
SPECIFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)i BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Proclaim March 14 through March 20 as Hire the Older
Worker Week in Contra Costa County and encourage all
Corporate Leaders and Community Businesses to recruit and
hire workers from this valuable pool of experienced and
solid work ethic candidates to help meet their changing
work force needs.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
WHEREAS, Governor Pete Wilson has declared March 14-20,
1993, as Hire the Older Worker Week in California; and :
during this important week, both the Private Industry
Council and Office On Aging will make extra efforts to
promote the hiring of workers who are age 55 or older:
It is important that our County and local business
community be made aware of this fast growing and valuable
labor resource; population trends indicate that one in
every five Americans today is 55 years of age or older.
The labor pool of experienced and trained older workers
is increasing as the growth rate of youth entering the
work force is diminishing.
