THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on March 16, 1993 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Powers, Smith, Bishop, McPeak and Torkdmn

ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Proclaiming Mediation Week In Contra Costa County
Rick Mockler of the Dispute Resolution Network, appeared on
this date and presented a proclamation on behalf of all the
community mediation programs in Contra Costa County on Mediation
Week.
Supervisor Torlakson requested the County Administrator to
schedule an appropriate time for presentation of a proclamation
to Mr. Mockler.
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the week of March 21, 1993
through March 27, 1993 is PROCLAIMED as Mediation Week in Contra
Costa County; and the County Administrator is REQUESTED to
schedule an appropriate time for presentation of a proclamation
to Richard Mockler of the Dispute Resolution Network.
I hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of

SUBJECT: Proclaiming the week of RESOLUTION NO. 93/107
March 21-27 as Mediation Week
in Contra Costa County
WHEREAS, all the members of our community - children, teenagers,
adults, and seniors - live with increasing levels of stress, conflict
and violence on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, the courts, law enforcement agencies, and human service
organizations record clogged court calendars, overwhelming demands for
law enforcement intervention, and overburdened caseloads; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to ameliorate these conditions, restore
harmony, improve relations and promote problem-solving abilities among
citizens and within neighborhoods and families, many of our citizens
have turned to mediation, with resulting social and economic benefits;
and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County and the Dispute Resolution Advisory
Committee support alternative dispute resolution programs, including
Battered Women' s Alternatives, California Community Dispute Services,
Conflict Resolution Panels, Shelter Incorporated, Superior Court, and
the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program; and
WHEREAS, these programs, together, have provided services to tens
of thousands of Contra Costa residents each year, and addressed a
variety of conflicts, including neighborhood and community disputes,
landlord/tenant problems, teen and family violence, ethnic and racial
conflicts, public housing disputes, and court and probation-referred
cases in all regions of Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS, all of these programs train and organize community
volunteers to support programs services and mediate disputes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County hereby joins other Bay Area Counties in proclaiming
the week of March 21-27 as Mediation Week and expresses sincere
appreciation to those agencies and volunteers who are working diligently
to promote safe and peaceful communities .
