SUBJECT: FEDERAL LSCA - MURL GRANT---AUTOMOTIVE/BUSINESS/SPANISH
LANGUAGE/HEALTH COLLECTIONS AT THE CONCORD BRANCH LIBRARY
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Authorize the County Librarian to apply for and accept Federal LSCA- MURL funding for the period October
1 , 1992 to September 1 , 1993 to strengthen the collection of the Concord Library as an automotive resource
center and to improve the collection of business materials, health/medicine materials, and Spanish language
materials.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
No matching funds are required. The Library will contribute selection and processing work and must share
these resources through established networking channels.
BACKGROUND:
The Library Service and Construction Act-Major Urban Resource Library provides that when total funding of
the Act exceeds a designated level, a portion of the excess be divided among library jurisdictions with cities
of over 100,000 population. Concord qualified for the first time in 1984/85. This application is for 8th year
funding. All LSCA-MURL grants are distributed through the California State Libraryin accordance with a
State plan. Concord's established share is $10,216. The proposed use of the funds is consistent with
identified local and regional needs.
