Spooner, Contracts Administrator (c♦ DATE: June 2, 1992 County SUBJECT: Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-137-5 with National Service Industries, Inc. (dba National Linen Service #71) SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize the Chair to execute on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-137-5 with National Service Industries, Inc. (dba National Linen Service #71) effective March 31, 1992, to amend Contract #26-137-3 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-137-4) to extend the Contract through June 30, 1992, with a payment limit increase of $150,000, from $846,450 to a new total Contract Payment Limit of $996,450 for linen rental service for Merrithew Memorial Hospital and Clinics. II.• FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for this service is included in the Department's FY 1991-1992 Enterprise I Budget. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: This Contractor has been providing linen rental services for Merrithew Memorial Hospital and Clinics since 1984. On October 23, 1990, your Board approved Contract #26-137-3, with National Service Industries, Inc. (dba National Linen Service #71) , effective September 1, 1990 through August 31, 1991, and on October 22, 1991, your Board approved Contract Amendment Agreement #26-137-4 which extended the Contract through March 31, 1992. For several months, the Department has been negotiating a contract with a new linen service which the Department anticipated having in place by April 1, 1992. However, details of the contract could not be worked out as quickly as expected, and the new vendor will not be in place until July 1, 1992. In the interim, the Department requested that National Linen Service continue to provide linen service for Merrithew Memorial Hospital and Clinics, and National Linen Service agreed to continue providing services as long as needed by the County. However, the Department inadvertently neglected to formally extend the National Linen Service Contract, and therefore, this vendor could not be paid for the services which it has been providing in good faith and which it is willing to continue providing through June 30, 1992. Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-137-5 will extend the Contract through June 30, 1992 and increase the payment limit to cover the cost of its linen rental service until July 1, 1992 when a new vendor will take over provision of this service.
