Now is the time for the public to recognize and acknowledge the pain and suffering these children and their families experience daily--now is the time to open our hearts and accept the fact that children are victims of this brutal disease-- now is the time to break the silence so children with HIV/AIDS can receive -the help they deserve. The Parents Pediatric AIDS Coalition has been formed to heighten public awareness of Pediatric HIV/AIDS, to help develop Pediatric AIDS medical programs and facilities, and to provide support to the parents and siblings. They incorporated in 1990 and have set many goals to'help affected children and their families--support groups and seminars have been formed; videos are being produced; speeches are being given to schools, PTA's, and community organizations; legislation is being lobbied; resource manuals are being written; media is being contacted; parents are receiving help dealing with school districts and government red tape; and, most importantly, the public is being educated. The Board of Supervisors calls upon the citizens of Contra Costa County to come together and to show compassion for all children with HIV/AIDS. We also ask that the public do everything possible to educate their fellow citizens and to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares June 11, 1992 as CHILDREN WITH HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAY in Contra Costa County.
