Rates information telephone number; (2) Direct the Community Development Department to work with the Environmental Affairs Committee in developing cooperative efforts with the East County cities in establishing quarterly "clean-up" service by franchised solid waste haulers and in developing community "Pride" projects similar to. those in West Pittsburg and on Bethel Island;. and (3) Direct the Community Development Department, in conjunction with the July 9th workshop, to undertake a Public Information ... Outreach on the Keller Canyon Landfill and ACME Transfer Station rates and the Solid Waste Management Facilities planned for residents throughout the County. BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS: With the closure of the Contra Costa Sanitary Landfill in Antioch andtheopening of the Keller Canyon Landfill, county residents have many questions about disposing garbage and recycling. The county needs to inform residents of recycling options in their community and the present solid waste management system planned for the entire county. In east county, the garbage haulers now provide free "clean- up" services once a year. These services are very well received in the communities. With the closure of the Contra Costa Landfill in Antioch and the restriction of public access to Keller Canyon Landfill to avoid traffic inpac'ts on Pittsburg residents, it will . be necessary for. our garbage haulers to provide free "clean-up" services more often to prevent roadside and other illegal dumping. In addition, traffic trips can be significantly reduced to the ACME transfer station.
