HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06021992 - 1.41 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY IN THE MATTER OF RESOLUTION NO. 92/367 Commending the Pittsburg High School "Rainbow Crew"on their representation of Contra Costa County at the statewide "Mock Trial"Law Competition David Littleton, a teacher at Pittsburg High School,has been coaching Pittsburg High students on for the statewide"mock trial"law competition for the past six years on a volunteer basis; and the 23 members of this year's team named themselves the "Rainbow Crew"and spent 20+ hours per week preparing and refining their courtroom presentation with the additional help of Karen Zelis, an Assistant District Attorney for Contra Costa County; and the Academic Programs for Excellence organization provides a Case Study to each school participating, containing a fact pattern,witness statements and other information upon which the school team puts together a total case,including students acting as pre-trial attorney and as 3 trial attorneys for both the defense and the prosecution, a court clerk, baliff and witnesses; and WHEREAS,the "Rainbow Crew", after having prepared their case, began a progression of mock trials by presenting their case against participating Contra Costa County schools before presiding jurists and, being undefeated,won the privilege of representing Contra Costa County at the state competition; and WHEREAS,the"Rainbow Crew", competing against 23 other California high Schools, each the best in its county,lost only one case in the second round (the only case lost all year), thereby placing 10th in the state; and WHEREAS,'Rainbow Crew"member Leonard Marquez was honored as state champion for his best pre-trial defense; NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors commends the "Rainbow Crew"of Pittsburg High School on their excellent representation of Contra Costa County at the state"Mock Trial"competition, including their preparation, presentation and placement at this prestigious state competi- tion. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 2nd day of June, 1992. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors of the date aforesaid.
